Hello and welcome aboard! My name is Jeff. I’ve been involved in music for as long as I can remember. Beatles records at age 3. Piano at age 5. Van Halen tapes at age 11. Guitar at age 13. My first bands, rock concerts, and gigs/stage fright in high school. Music college in my 20s. Way more serious bands in my 30s. Starting my own successful guitar tech business in my 40s. Oh, and being involved in making some records for the past 25 years. Now well-pickled in my early 50s, I’ve decided to write about some of the things that I have discovered along the way.

Waxing Sonic is about music with a heavy lean towards the DIY aesthetic as it pertains to recording sounds and improving instruments. I’m a guitar tech and recording engineer by trade, and I’ve been involved in audio production & music professionally since the late ‘90s. I am constantly learning, always searching for the new cool guitar mod, best microphone preamp for the job, or digging for new sounds. This is the place where I’ll discuss it all, from gear, to DIY mods, to capturing sounds in your apartment at midnight without getting evicted. I’ll also talk about some of my favorite records and the musicians who have made them.
